The Traffic Light Protocol (TLP): what does it mean for you?

At Brand Compliance, we work with the Traffic Light Protocol (TLP) to ensure that information is shared securely and in a controlled manner. This classification system helps us manage the distribution of different types of information and mitigate risks. But what does this mean for you as a customer?

What is the Traffic Light Protocol (TLP)? #

Traffic light protocolThe Traffic Light Protocol is a standard for managing and sharing information within organizations and external partners. The protocol uses color coding to indicate how and to whom information may be shared. These colors are:

  • TLP RED
    Strict confidentiality – intended only for individual recipients and not to be shared further.
  • TLP AMBER STRICT
    Only internally within the organization, on a “need-to-know” basis.
  • TLP AMBER
    Limited disclosure within a specific organization and its clients.
  • TLP GREEN
    Distribution is permitted within a group or partners within a specific community.
  • TLP CLEAR
    Public and freely shareable without risk.

How does this work in practice? #

You will receive emails from us that are provided with a TLP classification. This classification indicates how the information may be used and shared. For example:

  • A proposal or report falls under TLP AMBER because this information may only be shared with a specific group of customers or suppliers.
  • Marketing material and certificates fall under TLP CLEAR, which means that they can be shared without restriction.

With this system, we ensure that sensitive information remains protected and is only shared with the right recipients, while you as a customer always have access to relevant information in a secure and transparent manner.

As text in the color AMBER is difficult to read in an email, we have decided to use the color red. This makes the text stand out to the recipient. It is indicated though, that this concerns the AMBER classification.

The Traffic Light Protocol provides clear guidelines on how information may be shared. This supports security and protection of sensitive data.
